A Handful of Kittens

The picture you saw to get here showed an adult Ollie with big golden eyes. But as you can see here with his brother Wally on the left, these adorable 6-week-old kittens started out with blue eyes.

We celebrate National Cat Day today since we love our special rescue cats so much, and because they bring us so much joy on a daily basis.

What is That?

Here Wally as a kitten follows Gracie the tortoise, wondering what in the world she can be!

Today our cats often fall asleep on the floor in the sunroom, where the turtles often roam on sunny days. Ollie and Wally seem largely unperturbed by the turtles, and vice versa. Ollie frequently nibbles their turtle chow and jumps in the turtle tanks, even though we assure him he is not a turtle! Wally also wishes he could try some of Spike’s fish dinners.

Too Tired from Too Much Fun

We had the best time giving Ollie and Wally a Kitten Shower! They have always had extremely outgoing personalities, and they had a wonderful time—like kids at Christmas—playing with all the toys and gifts they received. Our wonderful cat-loving friends came from everywhere to honor our new kittens!

One of the generous gifts the kittens received was a soft cat bed. Ollie, pictured here, finally exhausted himself from having so much fun and fell asleep on his brand-new bed.

Happy to Help!

Here Ollie and Wally are older and have yellow eyes now. Wally looks bigger than Ollie, but Ollie weighs more.

They were happy to help my sister and brother-in-law open some presents during their visit...thanks for sharing this picture with us, Sis!

They are always happy to help wrap presents! They especially love to help with the finishing touches like ribbons…

Here’s another shot of our photogenic boys!

Ollie and Wally have always been best buds.

They have spent many hours playing together and sleeping side by side.

They were playing together in their carrier when we first brought them home!

Cat in the Box

Wally is shown here in an empty wicker wastebasket, but he also loves any kind of box.

Our past cats loved to sit in our laps, but not so with Wally and Ollie! Ollie lets himself be held and loves to play, and Wally LOVES being petted, but for whatever reason does not like being held and is not a lap cat. So, one day, I thought about the fact that Wally loves boxes so much, and put a box top lid on my lap. Wally was delighted to sit on my lap as long as he had a box there!

So, we keep a box lid near our loveseat, and Wally will come and sit on the floor near the loveseat to let us know he’s ready to sit on a lap—as long as there’s a box. I guess boxes are just his safe place, and I’m delighted Wally is now a lap cat!

Brotherly Love

Wally often helps give his brother Ollie a bath—although, truth to tell, this is often just a prelude to a good wrestling match.

We’re grateful our boys can keep each other company when we’re away from the house.

Wally and Ollie were born April 21, 2016 and are now 4-1/2 years old.

Ollie started out our blog today. For a final picture of Wally, SCROLL DOWN…

Not What it Looks Like

Here Wally looks like he’s making a lot of noise, but this is really just a big, silent yawn caught on camera.

Both Wally and Ollie are really quite quiet cats—they purr a lot, but it’s easier to feel them purr than to hear them purr (putting our ears right up to their fur). The turtles can make more noise than the cats!

They DO suddenly find their voices when they go into their carriers to go to the vet! We’re so grateful we go to Parkway Veterinary Hospital—only 5 minutes away!

This photo is also a prelude to our Halloween Blog coming up in a few days…you’ll see what we mean!

These rescue cats—and all our cats have been rescues—are the little lights of our life. We thank you as always for reading, and thank you for letting us share them with you on National Cat Day!
