Delicate Turtle Ornaments

Here’s a little video of 2 of our precious turtle ornaments! We’re showing you turtle ornaments we didn’t show you last year. These lovely glass turtles were precious gifts from family and friends. Notice these very breakable ornaments are displayed on our shower curtain rod: safely out of reach of playful cats! We love how they catch the light from the window and morning sun.

Turtle Travel Reminders

The 1st cloisonne ornament is a gift from a friend.

The 2nd ornament is from the Cayman Islands, where I released a 1-year-old green sea turtle (dinner-plate sized) many years ago. Also while there, I watched a tiny green sea turtle hatch out of its shell and look at me! I wrote a song: Cayman Island Turtle Farm.

The 3rd ornament reminds me of my trip to Costa Rica in 2000 to see and work with the world’s largest turtles: leatherback sea turtles! They have vertical stripes on their leathery shell backs and can grow to over a ton. I wrote a song: Leatherback Song. I love how this ornament “swims” with the huge flippers!

The last glass-blown turtle ornament is a red-eared slider!

Nature’s Ornament: Again!

Last December, we showed you a praying mantis egg case, or ootheca, on a tree by the North Wildwood seawall. This year, there was another ootheca in almost the same spot! But I also realized a praying mantis was there, staring right at me—maybe the same one who laid this year’s ootheca. We love praying mantises and see them everywhere, including several on the Cape May County bike trails.

Turtlesinger Christmas Cards

The 1st is a Christmas post card to riders who participated in our 12-year Annual Cape May County Benefit Motorcycle Poker Run for the Turtles.

The 2nd card is snapping turtle Spike and tortoise Bart—both big winners at the New York Turtle & Tortoise Society Show in Yonkers, New York.

The 3rd card shows Bart as Joseph and Gracie as Mary in the Live Turtle Nativity at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Villas, New Jersey.

Bart was the elf poster boy for our 4th card pictured here.

The final card is of our 2 brother cats, Wally and Ollie. We included it here as a tribute to our dear Ollie, on the right, who we lost this past June after a series of different medical attempts to save him.

The good news is our new kitten Willie came into our lives on July 1st and fills our lives with joy. Wally and all of our turtles also provide us with endless joy. We hope your Christmas is equally filled with joyous moments and wish you the happiest of holidays. Thanks as always for reading!
